CHUCK PATTERSON
![]() ![]() My father showed me the importance of community service. His name was Charlie Patterson. He was in no way a perfect man but in the eyes of his son, he was the model of what a man should be. He worked hard at the now defunct B&T Metals on W. Town Steet. In his earlier years he would leave that job and lay carpet and tile in the evening and then he would load my older sisters in the station wagon and deliver the Columbus Night Green newspaper. In the 1970's I watched him work with the Hilltop Civic Council and saw him taking evening walks as part of one of the early Blockwatch efforts in the community. In the 1980's he was the guy getting up early to hand out "government cheese". What I have done in the way of community service is in tribute to him. To this point I have: Served as president of the now defunct Hilltop Resource Center Served as an elected member and chairman of the Greater Hilltop Area Commission Served as president of the West/Southwest Area Realty Association Served as elected trustee and president of Southfield Village Homeowners Association (Now a civic organization) Served on the board of Youthbuild Columbus Served on the board of Imagine Schools Harrisburg Pike and Sullivant Avenue Charter Schools I participate in various community meetings, clean-ups, and projects as time allows. |
